Pre-Wedding Stress - 5 Ways You Can Deal with It 13

Once you get engaged as a couple, it is usually a countdown until your wedding day. You feel the excitement building, but at the same time, your stress levels are also rising. At this point, you probably don’t need me to tell you that wedding planning is stressful. You’re already feeling the brunt yourself.

The experience might be a little different from how you expected things to be. It’s especially hard to come to terms with because it’s like a low after the high of your engagement excitement. Now you have your family and friends making requests and asking lots of questions you can’t answer. You might even find yourself wondering: Am I ready? Have I made a mistake? You could also find yourself having trouble sleeping or eating. Have no fear. These feelings are normal. You don’t have to keep living with them, though. Your mental health is essential, so in this post, I’ll talk about five ways to deal with pre-wedding stress and its symptoms. Grab a drink, and let’s get started.

Don’t Keep It Hidden

Don’t bottle up your feelings and hide them, let them out. Are you feeling stressed, confused, or even depressed? Don’t keep it to yourself. Talk to a friend, a family member, and also your partner. That’s what being a couple is all about. You have to practice at having conversations with your partner when things are not going so well. Tell them about your stress and anxiety. Sharing those emotions could help you relieve them and make a big difference.

Take A Break

Can you remember the last time you had a wedding free conversation with your partner? If the answer is no, you’re long overdue for a break. If you’re not careful, wedding planning can take a toll on your mental health. Have an evening free of wedding planning and see a movie. You deserve a life outside wedding planning too. During the day, do some relaxation exercises. There are lots of apps and videos online that can help you with this. Pausing on your wedding planning activities for a couple of hours or an evening has been proven to make you more productive than doing them when you’re stressed out.

Focus on The Future

Sometimes, reminding yourself of why all this is happening could be just what you need. Your wedding is important but the future you have planned together, that’s why you’re doing this. Some years down the line in your marriage, this will be a distant memory. Take some time out to talk with your partner and reminisce on when you first met and look at old pictures of you both together. It might be just what you need to make you feel better.

Get Support

If you’re starting to feel very unwell as a result of wedding stress, know that you are not alone. It can happen to and has happened to lots of other people even though you might not know them. How about talking to a counselor about it? Remember that your mental health is important, and you’ll get through this.

  1. The best advice is, no matter how much you plan and plot out your wedding day something could inevitably go wrong and you can not let one small hiccup ruin your big day. My wife and I thought we did a great job of planning and coordinating for our wedding until around midnight the night before our wedding we realized there weren’t any roses for our unity ceremony. We placed an order online and left a message about how we needed them delivered ASAP the next morning because the roses were for a wedding. They arrived the following morning but if they had not we would have improvised in some other way. Roses or no roses we were getting married either way.
