Wedding Inspiration Board #31: Opal

by in — Updated February 4, 2015

Opals are one of those stones that can hold your gaze captive – their fiery flashes of color and seemingly magical depth like a beauty from another world. One of the birthstones for October (tourmaline is the other) opals are thought to symbolize faithfulness and confidence, perfect if you’re thinking of using this stone as inspiration for your wedding day. Precious opal ranges in color from clear through white, gray, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, magenta, pink, slate, and black. Most common are white with flashes of pink and bluish green, and blue with flashes of pink and green. They make a beautiful stone for an alternative engagement ring. Or you might wish to wear them in other jewelry, or even have them sewn onto your dress like the BHLDN design below. We love the idea of opals inspiring more subtle details as well – iridescent nails, invitations, or bridesmaid dresses in the same colors as your favorite opal.
