Daryn and Andy’s love of rock brought them to meet for the first time at a rock festival in Nottingham, England. Six months later, they found each other by another twist of fate (read below for full story). Their autumn wedding was a destination event for friends and family from both sides of the pond and The Red Barn Restaurant provided the perfect quintessential New England venue. Their day was filled with beautiful rustic details (in love with the all-green bouquets) and handmade touches such as the Thumbelina-like oversized paper flowers for the flower girls (SO cute!) and Daryn’s lovely handmade gown.
From the Bride
Before the Ring:
Andy and I met when one of our mutual friends dragged me out to a rock festival in Nottingham, England. We spoke a bit that night, but then parted ways. Six months later, a couple of my girlfriends decided I was too single for my own good and put me up on mysinglefriend.com. Andy was on it too. I told our mutual friend that we were on this silly website and she called him to tell him he should speak to me. He rejoined the site for 30 GBP to talk to me. I like to think it was him being a gentleman, but really he didn’t think to get my number from Lorraine!
The Proposal:
We went to Kirby Hall and Rockingham Castle in England one day and he was leaning on a stone wall and just looked at me and said “So, what do you reckon? Should we get engaged then? Will you marry me?” I said of course. He had apparently asked my dad for permission via Skype a little while before.
Wedding Day Inspiration:
Downton Abbey! I wanted a very down-to-earth wedding with a lot of handmade personal items. I made our save the dates, invitations, favors. A friend’s mother made my dress, and my mom made the favors for the little girls and the flowers they carried. Other than that, I wanted a New England autumn wedding, especially as my husband is British and his family had never been to the North-East US before.
Advice to Future Brides:
Start early, and do everything at a constant pace but a little bit at a time. Tackling each thing one at a time produces much less stress.
