Wedding Flower Inspiration: Cherry Blossom

by in — Updated March 23, 2015

Cherry blossoms, or Sakura, are an almost overwhelmingly beautiful flower when seen en masse in a grove of trees. In Japan, the traditional practice of viewing and enjoying cherry blossoms, which bloom for a short time in early spring, is called Hanami. The thinner branches can be used in bouquets, centerpieces, and structural pieces such as ceremony arches. They’re also inspiration for a gorgeous theme that can be carried throughout a wedding by way of cake decorating, silk fan and parasol painting, stationery, and accessories. In China, cherry blossoms are a symbol of feminine beauty, power, and love. There are springtime cherry blossom festivals all over the world. One of the largest in the U.S is the National Cherry Blossom Festival, in Washington, D.C.
