Brooklyn Botanic Garden Wedding {Sarah Tew Photography}

This wedding just goes to show that there is a place for Sweet Violets in the city! Angela and Dave’s gorgeous garden wedding at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a breathtaking display of love and natural details. These two met when they lived in Washington, D.C. and worked at the same office in the U.S. Senate, though being wary of office romance they held off on dating for quite a while. It was definitely worth the wait! Angela and Dave wanted to make sure their special day felt down-to-earth and fell in love with the natural beauty of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. They decided to keep things simple and let the gardens take center stage at their ceremony, and then danced the night away in the magical glass greenhouse-style Palm House that provides a view of the night sky. Congrats to the lovely couple, and thanks Sarah Tew Photography for sharing these inspiring images with us!

On the morning of the wedding, Angela set up a private yoga session for some close female friends and family. Dave invited some of the guys to play bocce with him in the park. They both wanted to start the day feeling grounded and spending time with some of the people who had traveled to be with them. Organizing these activities was one of the best decisions they felt they made because the activities really set the tone for the day.

From the Bride…

The Proposal:
Dave proposed to me in Providence, Rhode Island, a place that has special meaning to both of us. He put the ring in my birthday card and waited for a quiet moment alone to ask me.

Most Memorable Moment:
Of the many memorable moments, the two that stand out the most to us are exchanging vows at the ceremony and dancing with everyone at the reception. We wrote personal vows for each other, which we had exchanged alone before the wedding day. It felt very powerful to exchange them again while surrounded by friends and family at the ceremony.  At the reception, we were excited that our band got so many guests out on the dance floor. We really enjoyed looking around to see so many guests (of varying ages) dancing their hearts out.

Advice to Future Couples:
Our advice to future brides and grooms is to think through why you are doing each aspect of the wedding. For us, if we were doing something solely based on tradition and it wasn’t particularly meaningful, we tried to think of another way to do it that was more true to who we are (or cut it out altogether). We mixed things up a bit, and many guests told us they appreciated how personal that made the day feel.
