Fiddlehead Fern Wedding Inspiration

One of nature’s whimsical gifts, fiddleheads are the coiled fronds of young ferns. Watching them unfurl in in the spring is one of my favorite things about the season. I also love to see them incorporated into wedding bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, and even sugar fiddleheads on cakes. I’ve heard of them being called Monkey Tails, but Monkey’s freak me out, so I’m going to give them the alternative name of Butterfly Antennae. The beautiful scrolls come in a range of green to purple hues and add an instant fantastic woodland effect to your floral arrangement. I love them in any bouquet, but find them especially attractive in dark bouquets, like a few of the ones below, with almost black flowers. Fiddleheads are also a traditional springtime dish in places like New England where Ostrich ferns grow abundantly in the wild – though these are not typically the purple kind seen in bouquets. If you do find the edible kind at your local farmers market, it can be a great way to bring fresh, seasonal produce to your reception and also jazz up the visual appeal of your menu.

I was lucky enough to be invited along to our friend’s big day, this was the first time I have ever saw a full-on floral wall mural used in a wedding, it was beautiful. This was when I knew I needed to stay on top of the latest mural wallpaper trending designs. I figured there has to be a way to include wall murals in my home. I decided to put in living room wallpaper that fits my personality and that’s exactly what I did.

Woodland Wedding at Dragonfly Retreat {Maharaj Photography}

Happy Friday, Violets! I am so psyched to share this real wedding with you today! There is so much to love about Kimmy + Garrett’s beautiful woodland wedding. With a relaxed bohemian vibe and natural details (we’re swooning over the earthy bouquet and stunning flower crown by Marigold and Mint!) and things like using their favorite books as their “guest book” for people to sign, their day was uniquely them. These two chose to walk down the outdoor aisle together and honored guests held lanterns during their ceremony. Aren’t these two just about the most beautiful couple you’ve ever seen!? Thanks so much to Maharaj Photography for sharing their day with us.

From the Bride:

The inspiration for the day was based on the interests we have within our relationship. We are very inspired by nature so we loved the idea of highlighting aspects of wild and untamed nature, as seen in the floral arrangements, decorations, and in our venue choice. We are also inspired by simplicity and touch of the hand so all of the decorations were made by us and our closest friends.

We decided that on our wedding day we wanted to walk down the aisle together instead of the more traditional procession of the bride and father. For this reason, our favorite moment was holding hands walking down the aisle and looking around at all of our closest family and friends smiling back at us. Our processional song was ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by the Beatles.

Some of our favorite details from the day: we brewed our own beer as the take away gift for our guests + had guests sign our favorite books as our “guest book” so that we could rediscover their lovely messages throughout our life together.

Three pieces of wisdom:
1. Choose which traditions are important to you and which aren’t. Part of making the day your own is to be truthful to who you are. No pressure, just think about what feels right.
2. Take time before your big day to relax. On the morning of our wedding we decided to participate in our every day yoga practice just the two of us and looking back, this time together was exactly what we needed.
3. Don’t stress – you’re marrying your best friend, what could be better?

A Green and Organic Affair

If you are looking for something that would match this year’s Pantone color, greenery, then you have to check out this stylized shoot. From the crisp green succulents to the warming comfort of the dreamily lit barn, this styled shoot is sure to inspire any bride looking to recreate southern romance. The Bride and Groom Ensembles

The bride dressed in Signature Bridal Salon court train lace dress exhibits a classic southern belle. The cascading bouquet made up of roses and foliage added a glam and rustic touch to her whole look. The groom’s blue suit sure is classic and sophisticated — a little change from the traditional black suit. And instead of a pocket square, the groom got a pad of tiny succulents to stay with the succulents and organic theme.

The Ceremony Venue

The big window creates for a dramatic lighting that gives a mysterious silhouette as the bride enters. Such a breathtaking scene! The candle chandelier and succulents lining the aisle complemented well the simpleness of the barn.

Each table was designed to subtle and dainty to bear the southern vibes.

The Buffet Table

The elaborate centerpieces and table runners are definitely out of the norm! I love the green lush spread on the buffet tables along with the fresh fruits and veggies. Succulents were also significant in the theme they were going for. Looking at these photos made me hungry! What a feast!

Styled Shoot: Lavender Bloom

Set up with the cutest boho decor around with greys, coppers, and blush pink glass, today’s featured shoot is something worth marvelling at. Behind the lense was Rivkah Photography and her team wanted a whimsical bohemian style. I love most the smoke grenades which I agree will be a big hit to brides this year. The Venue

This beautiful flower farm has just opened its doors to small wedding ceremonies. They sell flowers to some amazing local vendors who create magic for other weddings and events. They got dahlias, roses, peonies, herbs, lavender and so much more – definitely a florist’s heaven. Lynda showed up with her scissors and ribbon and created all the floral pieces on site.

The Outfits

Wearing a Dove grey Truvelle gown, Regal but angelic is our bride for today. The groom is looking handsome in his linen shirt and vest to complete the color scheme. A herb crown for her and blueberry boutonniere for him.

The Bouquet

Flowers featured in this bouquet consisted of the highly sought after Cafe au Lait Dahlias, beautiful Garden Roses and Hydrangeas. An abundance of Herbs including Lemon Verbena, Rosemary and Lavender for a sweet summer scent and touches of Blueberries added a fun twist to the combination. Ribbons used are a Plant Dyed Silk which complemented this all natural, ethereal styled bouquet perfectly.

The Table Setting

The table was set up using the natural elements such as the succulents, cactus, the flowers from the farm and the potted plants. The dessert plate was hand carved with the local fresh blueberries as another element.

Snow White & The Huntsman Styled Wedding Shoot

So in love with these photos! A fairy tale favorite, Snow White & The Huntsman was the inspiration for this gorgeous rustic woodland wedding shoot. A whimsical forest-themed table in the woods set the scene for this “Snow White” bride and her huntsman. The classic red apple makes an appearance, and there was a homemade apple pie too, but some of Snow White’s forest friends ran off with it! I love the ethereal light, wintry bouquet, custom gown by Faerie Brides, and wood slice chair back signs to name a few of these special details. ENV Photography is behind the lens.

Coral + Sweet Mint Summertime Ranch Wedding Reception

Kallie and Dan had a sweet summertime wedding in Utah. After a Mormon temple ceremony they celebrated with a ranch style reception at Johnson’s Mill where a beautiful pond enabled them to go for a canoe ride with a “just married” sign on the back of the boat. “Dan and I love to be outdoors, enjoying any adventure, and taking advantage of breathtaking views,” Kallie says of their choice of location. They chose accent colors of mint and coral for the bridesmaid’s dresses, cake and sweets table, and bouquets. They had lawn games to play, as well as pedal boats for their guests, and ended the night by leaving on the canoe as fireworks went off over the water! Logan Walker Photography is behind the lens.

From the Bride…

Before the Ring:
Dan and I first met floating down the Provo river – with our dates. The next time we met, we were both single, visiting a mutual friend in the hospital. One and a half months later we officially went on our first date!

The Proposal Story:
Dan proposed, and was so thoughtful. He planned a triple date with my two best friends for all of us to go golfing. (So I never would’ve suspected a thing!) On the 8th hole at Bountiful Ridge golf course, right when the sun was setting, the views of the entire valley opened up, he pretended to hit a ball into the woods. (Our friends had played on so they were on the next hole.) Dan led me down a rose petal path to a blanket with bubbly, roses, and chocolate covered strawberries. It was there that he got down on his knee and made me shed a tear with his tender words, then asked me to marry him. It was that moment that any doubts or fears vanished and I was like a giddy school girl saying yes to the man of my dreams. Awhile later our friends rushed back to celebrate with us and take pictures. I was on cloud 9!

What you would have done differently, if anything:
Danced more and eaten the reception food!

Any advice you have for future brides?
Remember that people won’t know what was “missing,” don’t stress it – especially on your big day! However it looks is perfect and so enjoy it! You can laugh at any mishaps later, I promise.

Favorite Moment?
Kneeling at the alter in the temple. Almost indescribable how amazing that moment was. Such powerful blessings and promises, and such a long-awaited moment with a man I love. Then there’s the feeling of inexpressible love from 100 of our closest friends and family all there supporting us.

Best advice to other mountain brides?
Weather can be unpredictable – be ready for anything! Also, have a good photographer – your pictures can be breath taking! It’s worth paying for the memories

Colorful + Earthy North Carolina Farm Wedding

This colorful DIY farm wedding contains so much inspiration for summer weddings! Sarah and Caleb tied the knot at the Hodgin Valley Farm in Greensboro, NC. Their relaxed, rustic style made for a fun and memorable day filled with pretty details. Sarah wore an elegant lace gown with a wildflower bouquet and flower crown. Her bridesmaids all wore mismatched dresses in shades of aqua and turquoise. The couple had their first look on the bridge over the lake, and was married by the bride’s grandfather before dancing the night away in the barn. Guests enjoyed homemade pie, local food and beer, and bright DIY décor made by the bride’s mother. The newlyweds were sent off through a human tunnel as all their friends and family cheered. Boho Woodsy Styled Shoot {Beana Bern Photography}

Happy Friday, Violets! These photos embody an ethereal feel with rich, old world accents that complement the moods and magic of the woods. This styled shoot was put together by a talented group of Vermont wedding designers/vendors, including photographer Beana Bern, who was behind the lens at The Greensboro Barn. The barn’s weathered old wooden beams and boards, natural light, and lush green grounds provided the perfect backdrop for a blend of bohemian and medieval inspired elements.

Barefoot sandals with freshwater pearls, vintage crystals, and lace flowers adorned the bride’s feet, while a sexy antique lace veil adorned her head. Vintage silver, medieval-style tarts, and lush peonies graced a table tucked under an ancient apple tree. The bouquet of blush hellebores, lily of the valley, ranunculus, viburnum, and dogwood was tied with vintage lace, silk ribbon, and metal beads. The silk chiffon wedding dress featured a lace up back, French knots, vintage beads, and hand embroidery. Engraved wedding rings and an elegant cake completed the romantic, otherworldly effect.

French Country Toile Inspired Anniversary Shoot

High school sweethearts Alyson and Lamar made a spur of the moment decision to tie the knot after many years together but their elopement left them without wedding photos. For their anniversary, seven years later, they decided to finally have their love commemorated in pictures (it is never too late to get wedding photos taken!). This gorgeous shoot, inspired by Christina’s Cakery French Toil wedding cake, encompasses the natural beauty of the Michigan countryside. Alyson and Lamar now have three beautiful boys and have recently started a fitness journey as a family. Over the past year they have lost a total of 130lbs!
