Fiddlehead Fern Wedding Inspiration

One of nature’s whimsical gifts, fiddleheads are the coiled fronds of young ferns. Watching them unfurl in in the spring is one of my favorite things about the season. I also love to see them incorporated into wedding bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, and even sugar fiddleheads on cakes. I’ve heard of them being called Monkey Tails, but Monkey’s freak me out, so I’m going to give them the alternative name of Butterfly Antennae. The beautiful scrolls come in a range of green to purple hues and add an instant fantastic woodland effect to your floral arrangement. I love them in any bouquet, but find them especially attractive in dark bouquets, like a few of the ones below, with almost black flowers. Fiddleheads are also a traditional springtime dish in places like New England where Ostrich ferns grow abundantly in the wild – though these are not typically the purple kind seen in bouquets. If you do find the edible kind at your local farmers market, it can be a great way to bring fresh, seasonal produce to your reception and also jazz up the visual appeal of your menu.

I was lucky enough to be invited along to our friend’s big day, this was the first time I have ever saw a full-on floral wall mural used in a wedding, it was beautiful. This was when I knew I needed to stay on top of the latest mural wallpaper trending designs. I figured there has to be a way to include wall murals in my home. I decided to put in living room wallpaper that fits my personality and that’s exactly what I did.

Sunset Styled Beach Wedding

Christina Lilly Photography and Gilded Lily Events worked to create this beautiful sunset wedding on an untouched beach in New Jersey. The shell garland, blue mason jars, & salt water taffy favors are great additions to a seaside theme. I absolutely love the use of blue, green, and frosty white sea glass. There are so many things you could do with sea glass…you could make an entire wedding theme out of it! The bride broke the mold of today’s strapless dress with a gorgeous vintage lace Claire Pettibone and the groom kept it classic in a J.Crew suit complete with anchor socks. They tied it all together with the couple’s adorable pup in a bow tie! It’s hard to reinvent a classic idea but Gilded Lily Events made it fresh again.

Artsy Industrial Wedding with Rustic + Vintage Details

This is our last wedding feature of 2015, but it also happens to be one of my favorites! You can just tell Brandy and Peter have an amazing love story – which they do. They’ve been together since high school and have been on a whirlwind of adventures together. They currently live in NYC while Brandy gets her MFA but the Sloss Furnaces in their hometown of Birmingham, AL was a special place for them and the perfect backdrop for their wedding day. j.woodbery photography shot a combination of film and digital for this artistic couple (Brandy is a designer and painter and Peter is a musician). I’m in love with their fabulous style and the details they chose – from the woodland bouquets and centerpieces to Brandy’s vintage inspired Hayley Paige gown and Peter’s rustic cotton boutonniere. Michigan Garden Wedding at Southern Exposure Herb Farm

When Courtney and Mike visited Southern Exposure Herb Farm, they fell in love the moment they pulled in. It is surrounded by the most beautiful gardens, paths and the perfect little details that make it a unique place to host a wedding. “We love being outside and knew we wanted an outdoor site and they had one open Saturday in their calendar so we booked in on the spot,” says Courtney. The farm took care of catering, flowers, and music. They enjoyed perfect weather as they said their vows before family and friends in the beautiful garden. Accents of light blue, peach, and blush were carried throughout – as well as beautiful succulents and burlap. “We love succulent plants and have a bunch in the living room as they are pretty low maintenance. We gathered various glass containers and planted/grew them throughout the year (they took over our garage!) Christmas Styled Wedding Shoot {Shelly Taylor Photography}

Christmas is just one week away! This festive Christmas wedding inspiration features the gorgeous Vintage Oaks Ranch who also provided the floral, decor, rentals and styling! A creative “fireplace” with stockings stood in as the ceremony backdrop, a rustic naked cake decorated with berries was displayed in the back of a holly-red vintage truck, and cozy plaids, silvers and golds were carried throughout. The signage and stationery was created by K Dunks Creative, who is also the bride model. The groom model, Joel, even brought his dog, Dixie, for this fun shoot and got a Christmas wreath to wear around her neck! Colorado Mountain Wedding with Farm Table Reception

Rachel and Narada had an earthy August wedding in Durango, Colorado. Hosted at the private residence of a friend, their day was intimate and full of natural beauty. It was a perfect setup for a sweet Colorado elopement Friends and family rang bells as the couple completed their vows in the mountain forest, and the reception that followed was anything but ordinary. Yellow Carrot did a fabulous job putting together a vegetarian menu as well as creating a gorgeous and very long farm-style table where guests gathered for a celebratory lunch. The wood table was decorated with moss, pickled peppers, succulents and many other delicious edible centerpieces. A table full of all different kinds of homemade pie, from Pecan Pear and Peach Raspberry to Tart Cherry and Gluten Free Lemon Meringue, leaves all thoughts of wedding cake in the dust. These images from Joanna Moss Photography have me in the holiday spirit! This styled shoot showcases a fresh look that can go from wedding to party in the simple transformation of one dress – from ball gown to glittering party dress! A mix of winter whites and gold + silver glitter evokes on a modern holiday feel, or a chic New Year’s celebration. Two bridal bouquets are seen in this shoot – one containing more white and accented with bling keeping with New Year’s theme and the other more wintery and woodsy. Simple, elegant details keep this look classic with just the right amount of finesse. Light blue French macarons sprinkled in silver dust, gold mason jars, and a little indoor forest of white tress in twinkle lights. Pair it with metallic heels and you’re ready to pop the bubbly!

Deer Themed Woodland Wedding {Allie Siarto Photography}

If you dream of having a wedding reception that makes your guests feel like their seated amidst an enchanted forest, then you will love these inspiring photos from Taylor and Joshua’s rural woodland Michigan wedding! They met in Nara, Japan, where there are hundreds and hundreds of tame deer wandering around the parks. “We spent so many dates there, walking around in the sunshine, and feeding the deer,” says Taylor. Each table at their reception had different deer figurines that her mom sourced from antique shops. Gorgeous green florals, candlelight, and a berry-covered naked cake added to their amazing celebration, photographed by Allie Siarto Photography.

From the bride:

We are really, quite lucky in that our parents decided it was best to give us two weddings. We had just been married a week before in Florida, but this second wedding blessing and reception in Michigan allowed everyone in the family to be there. My aunt and uncle lent us their barn in the woods, so a woodland theme seemed to fit really well and be different than our wedding in Florida.

I loved all the vintage books that my aunt had sourced in deep greens, the cute little deer my mom had scoured antique shops for. We had a typewriter I had lugged over from England, cute handwritten signs by my amazingly talented cousin, mason jars, twinkle lights, and the most amazing wood log planters. We were very lucky – a lot of people came out to help us – some family friends lent us hundreds of beautiful antique dishes, some other family friends did the food, my uncle smoked a whole pig AND built a huge wood bar for the event.

My aunt officiated, and my cousin drove us around on the golf cart while we searched for the perfect photo spot. It was…so different from our wedding a week before, in such a good way that it allowed us to relax and enjoy time with our family and friends – and some real good BBQ food!

Elegant Fall Barn Wedding at Vintage Oaks Ranch

It’s not technically winter for a few more weeks yet so I intend to enjoy all the autumn I can! Which is why I’m very excited to share this absolutely gorgeous fall wedding inspiration drenched in golden light. This styled shoot from Shelly Taylor Photography highlights the season’s natural beauty in shades of brown, gold, cinnamon, blush, and sage. A Studebaker Hawk and lace gown from Georgio’s Bridal add a hint of vintage charm to the rustic details of the bride’s bouquet, ivory and green pumpkins and brass woodland creatures adorning the table. Feathers are used as a motif throughout in the stationery, floral arrangements, and place settings which have the unique effect of being both regal yet natural and slightly bohemian at the same time.
