Ruthie and Rush had their beautiful barn wedding at the Russell Lands On Lake Martin, Alabama. They picked three words to build their wedding on: simple, elegant, rustic. “We wanted the wedding to not be a show, but a real and honest look into our relationship and how much we love one another. We also wanted everyone to have fun so we picked a great band and good food!” says Ruthie. Bridesmaids wore beautiful pale mint lace dresses and the bouquets were made of beautiful petals in shades of white, peach, light blush, and green. Ruthie wore a gown with full tulle skirt for the ceremony and then changed into a fun knee length bohemian dress and flower crown for the barn reception. Romantic Vermont Wedding at West Monitor Barn

This Chicago couple tied the knot on a beautiful July day in Vermont’s Green Mountains. Ramona and Jack were so excited to host their destination wedding in the state of their Alma Mater, Middlebury College and their vision of a dreamy ceremony in a field and reception inside a large barn came to life at the West Monitor Barn in Richmond, Vermont. The barn was lit with gorgeous twinkle lights and candles, providing the perfect amount of light for a romantic ambiance, and featured exquisite bouquets and centerpieces styled by Nectar & Root. Bridesmaids wore pale mint dresses, each design slightly different, which complemented the whimsical bouquets in shades of peach, bright pink, coral, and green. Read below for many more details! Details of the Day – from the photographer:

The girls looked gorgeous as they helped Ramona into her stunning modern crocheted lace dress that perfectly complimented her soft but whimsical personality. A little whimsy was added to the guys’ attire with varying colorful socks. There were many special touches to the day that provided glimpses into Ramona and Jack’s upbeat and colorful personalities – Ramona’s heirloom vintage jewelry that belonged to her grandmother, including her engagement ring, Jack’s tie that featured stick figure runners as a homage to his love of running, indulging in local pie for desert, their fun interactive couples’ toast, and their photo booth guest book in lieu of a traditional guest book. These unconventional aspects of the event made this night truly memorable.

Adding to the evening were the surprises for the bride and groom! The groom’s father surprised the couple with a room full of sparklers during his speech which looked simply magical in the dimly lit barn and the groom’s mother surprised them with Ben & Jerry’s Catering. Seeing the looks on their faces for not one, but two surprises made everyone’s night. A favorite part of their ceremony was their vows: honest, romantic, and unique to their relationship. Their vows told the story of their love and we were able to learn so much more about each of them because of it. We especially loved the line, “I promise to trust in the strength of our relationship because we’re better together,” confirming that these two belonged together.

Elegant + Rustic Chic Texas Barn Wedding

Hannah and Cole exchanged vows under a massive oak tree on a family farm in Georgetown, Texas. The tree was adorned with hanging flowers, lanterns, and a petal-filled aisle straight out of a fairy tale! Loaded with handmade details, this wedding is rustic yet chic and elegant. Their sweet pup was their “flower girl” and even wore a collar of purple flowers! Bridesmaids wore pale blush gowns and carried gorgeous bouquet in shades of pink, honey-orange, and green – versions of Hannah’s own bouquet. Vintage furniture, rustic signs, and a vintage cherry red truck played a big part in their décor for the day. A sparkler send-off was a fun way for all to end the night. From the Bride…

Before the Ring:
Cole and I met on a mission trip in high school with our church. From the moment I met Cole, I knew that I was going to marry him. He was so sweet and genuine. He was funny, nice, a great person to be around, and he treated me so well and that’s what I loved about him.

What is your proposal story?
May 2015 we went on a family trip with his family to Turks and Caicos. I had already knew that we were going to be taking family pictures this week, so I thought he was going to propose to me during our photo session. The day before we went to take family pictures, we went horseback riding in the ocean. His mom kept saying “We should look really cute today!” and I didn’t think anything about it. I just decided to wear workout clothes because I knew we were going to be hot and getting wet from the ocean. The guide told us that we were going to have to take the long way because there was another big group that was going to be down at the water the same time we were. We got into the water and the guide was trying to get my horse closer to the front because he was going pretty low. Once I got up to the front, the guide told me that we had to get out of the water because they had a deal with this home owner not to take the horses through the water at that spot so we started to head towards the shore. Once we got to the shore and rode along here for a little while, the guide was talking to me and then she told me, “Hannah you might want to look over to your left.” So I did and in the sand was written “Hannah will you marry me?” Cole got off of his horse and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and of course I said yes! I love our proposal story. It will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the best day of my life, besides getting married of course!

Inspiration/details of the wedding day:
Cole and I both love being outdoors so we picked this setting for our wedding. I used Pinterest and The Knot for some of my inspiration. Most of the details that day were ideas my mom had come up with. We did a lot of DIY with the help of many friends to help make our day unique to us. We were so lucky to have family and friends in our lives to help make it all possible. Our vendors were amazing and so easy to work with. They helped with the details and the inspiration that we will never forget!

Most memorable moment/s?
The whole day was very memorable to me. I loved that we were able to have our dog Daisy in our wedding! I was able to watch her from a distance walk down the aisle and it made me so happy! From waking up that day to going to bed that night, I loved literally everything about my wedding day. All of our personal details and touches made that day very memorable.

Colorful + Earthy North Carolina Farm Wedding

This colorful DIY farm wedding contains so much inspiration for summer weddings! Sarah and Caleb tied the knot at the Hodgin Valley Farm in Greensboro, NC. Their relaxed, rustic style made for a fun and memorable day filled with pretty details. Sarah wore an elegant lace gown with a wildflower bouquet and flower crown. Her bridesmaids all wore mismatched dresses in shades of aqua and turquoise. The couple had their first look on the bridge over the lake, and was married by the bride’s grandfather before dancing the night away in the barn. Guests enjoyed homemade pie, local food and beer, and bright DIY décor made by the bride’s mother. The newlyweds were sent off through a human tunnel as all their friends and family cheered. Rustic + Bright Wisconsin Wedding at the Enchanted Barn

This colorful wedding might be just what we needed during the mid-winter blahs! Bright pops of orange, yellow, and red made for a lively celebration at the Enchanted Barn in Hillsdale, Wisconsin. These playful colors along with succulents and air plants for added texture created a wild bouquet that I’m completely obsessing over! The rustic venue was the perfect place as Jordan grew up around horses and working in barns. The non-traditional aspects of the Enchanted Barn also appealed to Jordan and Joel. From the Bride…

The proposal story:
We took a motorcycle road trip out to Yellowstone National Park in July 2013 where we were camping and seeing the sights of the park. Joel proposed to me at Inspiration Point which overlooks the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone at sunset while I was taking copious amounts of pictures of the rising full moon. When I turned around he was down on one knee and I of course said YES! I almost toppled off the edge of the canyon in my excitement, but thankfully my new fiancé grabbed me! It was a really special moment and we were all alone – which rarely happens anywhere in Yellowstone in July.

Details / Inspiration for the wedding day?
I grew up riding horses and working in barns, and we loved the outdoor setting for our wedding because we are outdoorsy people that liked the non-traditional aspects of the Enchanted Barn. I used Pinterest and The Knot to come up with a lot of the inspirations. We did a lot of DIY with the help of our family for the details which was a fun aspect and kept costs relatively low. We are lucky to have such talented and generous friends and family that helped to make all of our inspirations come true. We wanted to be true to who we are as a couple- and I think we achieved that with all of our details and the location. Our vendors were also amazing at helping to make our inspirations come to life, and they were all such a pleasure to work with.

Most memorable moment/s?
The intimacy of our wedding surrounded by our favorite people and officiated by my aunt. The mules running through the pasture behind the barn during our vows. All of our personal touches that made our day very genuine and true to who we are as a couple.

New England Castle and Barn Wedding at Gibbet Hill

Daryl and Tony were married at the beautiful Barn at Gibbet Hill in Massachusetts. Daryl surprised everyone with a magical wedding ceremony at the top of the hill in the old Castle-like ruins of an old hunting lodge. Enchanting ivy-covered stone walls and the perfect amount of filtered sunlight made for an amazing setting in which to exchange their vows. The bouquets were a dreamy composition of velvety blush roses, peonies, and dusty miller. The barn was decorated in an elegant vintage theme with soft colors of blush and cream with dim lighting and plenty of candlelight for a rustic and inviting look among the wood beams of the structure. Southern Autumn Barn Wedding at 9 Oaks Farm

Tiffany and Justley tied the knot at 9 Oaks Farm in Monroe, Georgia. The high school sweethearts chose a fall inspired theme with pumpkins, hay, sunflowers, and cotton. Tiffany’s beautiful rustic bouquet included peach roses, sunflowers, and cotton buds. Their two adorable pups joined for photos before the ceremony, and we love how their cake topper included them too! The wedding party wore cowboy boots and danced the night away in the beautiful barn decked out in twinkle lights and orange and yellow flowers. Claire Diana Photography is behind the lens.

From the Bride…

Before the Ring:
Justley and I are High School Sweethearts 🙂 We first started dating in 2004 when I was a Freshman and he was a Sophomore. Started out as friends. One night all of our friends had other plans so we decided we would just go out, just the two of us. We went out to dinner at Moe’s where he showed me his chewed up food, very mature. Afterwards we went and saw the movie “Secret Window.” We were both active in the FFA, Justley’s Mom was our Agricultural/FFA Teacher. We had our ups and downs through high school but always found our way back to each other. We’ve been together now since 2007.

The Proposal:
We never were in any rush to get married. After Justley graduated from UGA, he got an opportunity a few months later to work in Savannah. Since we’d been together for so long, it was only right that I move with him, along with our dog baby, Willow. Moving to Savannah, away from our Family and Friends made us grow stronger as a couple. After living in Savannah for over a year, Justley realized it was time to ask me. I always told him I would not pick out my ring, he had to choose! So he creeped on my Pinterest account and found what kind of ring I wanted. He then took the picture to multiple jewelers to only discover the ring had been discontinued. Two of our good friends assisted Justley on picking out the perfect ring! A few days later we took the dogs for “a walk” at our apartment, so I thought! In a private area by the Marsh he proposed, with our two pups as witnesses. I always told him I would kill him if he did it in public, I didn’t want all eyes on us!

Being a Minnesota girl, Ashley wanted to incorporate everything she loved about the South for her Northern friends and family to enjoy. Their Southern barn wedding at Starrsville Plantation in Covington, GA, featured details like cowboy boots, coke with peanuts, mason jars and simple wildflower-style floral arrangements. Rustic Mint Wedding with Southern Charm + Coca-Cola

You might say that Ashlyn and Seth had their headd in the clouds when they first met – Ashlyn was a flight attendant and Seth just happened to be on one of her flights as he was headed to Texas to visit some friends. He tried to get her attention a few times but she was focused on work. Finally, when she had a break Seth asked her to sit down with him and watch Duck Dynasty. 20 minutes later they were both smitten and two weeks after that he took her out on a date. “We just clicked and knew right off the bat this was “it.” Fourteen months later they were married. Their adorable barn wedding, with personal touches such as cookie cakes, was held at Antique Acres near Athens, Georgia. “When planning our wedding we knew we needed to incorporate my favorite colors, our cowboy boots, and Seth’s beloved Coca-Cola!” Thank you Brandy Angel Photography for capturing and sharing these beautiful moments!

Wedding Inspiration Board #22: & My Horse

It’s the year of the horse, and for all those horse lovers out there what could be more fun than an equestrian themed wedding? I was lucky to be able to ride quite a bit when I was growing up and having spent much time around these magnificent creatures I couldn’t resist creating an inspiration board for brides who want to include this theme in their wedding. Whether you’ll be riding down the outdoor aisle on horseback, or simply including hints of your love for these animals I hope this board inspires you. Some of my favorite ideas: Create a wreath of flowers for your horse if they’ll be at the celebration, include (clean) horseshoes in your décor, top your cake with your favorite Breyer, and wear your riding boots!
