In reply to Laura J. Eau de cologne Violeta is a similar scent. Retails $60 so far more affordable as well. They have a great line of affordable, cruelty-free fragrances.

Hi, was reading your article with great interest as I’m trying to find a fragrance which comes remotely close to Penhalligon’s Violetta as it’s now discontinued. Head notes are citrus and geranium, heart is violet and base notes are sandalwood, cedarwood and musk. I know this is an old article but if you get this please help as any advice would be hugely appreciated!!! Many thanks in advance, Laura

In reply to Jon Wilkins. I’m a tad late to this party but “Violette” by Bourbon French Perfumes in New Orleans is DEFINITELY a 1920s (& earlier vintage) era scent. Their Lily of the Valley perfumes/scented products are also a rare & delicate treat for those who live true scents. I highly recommend them & their prices aren’t exorbitant. For those looking for a more modern violet perfume, Lolita Lempicka is a fun scent which mixes violet w/ anise/black licorice.

My mom always wore YARDLY April Violets, and I love the smell, but it doesn’t last long. Anything close to that violet scent?

In reply to Jon Wilkins. All of the scents I reviewed here were currently for sale (at least in 2012 when this post was written). I'm sure many scents from the 1920's may have been similar, but you'd probably have to shop somewhere like ebay to find one actually from the 20's.

My very favorite scent is violet and i have a hard time finding anything violet scented. I found a bar of soap violet scented recently.. love all your picks id love to smell them all..
