Their enthusiasm for life has taken them to many different places over the last six years, and they’ve already completed some huge projects together such as building their first house. Before the Ring:
Emilee and Trevor met their Junior year of High School. As Emilee sat at the lunch table with her girlfriends picking out which boy they wanted, Emilee “picked” Trevor. That reality came to fruition several months later at the Winter Formal dance, when a friend of Emilee’s pushed them together on the dance floor and made them dance. One dance became two and two became three. A week into their relationship they had developed “the plan” and seven years later that “plan” became a reality.

Proposal:
Every year Trevor’s family takes an annual beach trip. But during this trip to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida in 2011, Trevor had brought along something a little different. An engagement ring. Trevor snuck away and contacted a pilot to fly around an “Emilee, Will You Marry Me?” banner. With the help of his sister Alannah everyone had gathered on the beach awaiting the surprise that Trevor had planned. As the plane towing the banner approached, Trevor got down on one knee and popped the question to Emilee. A speechless Emilee was eventually able to say “Yes!”

Details of the day:
Emilee and Trevor were married on Trevor’s family farm, their special place that they refer to as simply “the farm.” Emilee’s niece Ellee Anna along with three other flower girls and two ring bearers escorted her down the aisle in handmade garments made by the bride’s sister Ashlee. Guests noshed on “southern comfort” food including chicken and waffles and mini crab cakes. The couple chose homemade sangria as their signature drink. The band, City Heat, had the barn rocking and guests danced all night long

Most memorable moment:
After Emilee and Trevor were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. The two of them exited the ceremony and ran off to the farmhouse to wait on the bridal party. Just the two of them, alone, together in that moment was the most memorable part of their day. These two unplanned minutes together were filled the greatest raw emotion of the entire day. They laughed and cried together and savored every moment of their time together.

Advice to future couples:
During wedding planning, Trevor often reminded Emilee that “even if the pinks don’t match, at the end of the day we’ll still be married.” It’s easy to get wrapped up in the planning of the wedding, but the actual wedding day is the quickest 24 hours of your life, and the marriage is forever. They want couples to remember to just take a step back and take it all in. Emilee believes that if you’ve found the person whom God has made for you, then the rest of the process is easy. They believe that the wedding will likely be the best night of your lives, but being married to your best friend is even better. Emilee found a quote in a Southern Weddings magazine which she absolutely loved and would like other couples to read, “Most of all, we believe that planning for a wedding means planning for more than just one day; that there is nothing on this earth more important than family; and that, while details are nice, true love always, always wins.”

Before the Ring (from the Bride):
Jeff and I met after joining E-harmony. (I was in it a few days, and him: a month.) It turned out we lived 2 minutes from each other and had a bunch of mutual friends. I made him promise to wait a year before proposing but after 11 months and a few days, he surprised me and dropped to one knee in the very spot we first held hands (on a sidewalk in Fort Langley) and asked me to spend my life with him. Well, he actually gave me a purple cashmere glove and ‘dropped’ the left one and THEN got to one knee to pick it up. When I put my hand inside, the ring was in the ring finger. A year later we’re in Italy celebrating our 1^st anniversary!

Details of the Day:
Our wedding plans started out as being big and elaborate but evolved to be quite simple with a lot of DIY touches. We knew of a beautiful property in West Abbotsford and secured that first for our ceremony and reception. We used an engagement photo and ordered it on the face of simple postcards for our invitations at vistaprint.ca. I found my dress at Champagne and Lace in Abbotsford and found some awesome fuchsia sandals at the Gap that allowed me to dance the night away! I ordered custom clutches from Monica Jones who owns Babbs Boutique (on Etsy) for myself, my mom and all 5 bridesmaids. There were a lot of burlap and mason jars in the decor and we brought a load of jars to a local florist and had her fill them with an array of colorful wildflowers for our centerpieces and for down the aisle. She also did our bouquets in the same way, they turned out better than I imagined! It was a lot of work planning and decorating or own event but we had loads of help from friends and family and it turned out to be a lot of fun!

Before the Ring (from the Bride): Phil and I met my sophomore year of high school. He was a cute, older boy that was friends with my brother. From the first time I met him, I remember being struck by his sweet personality and adorable looks. We dated from my junior year of high school until we were engaged my senior year of college. It seems like just yesterday, but it’s amazing how perfect our story has unfolded and each day I am constantly reminded of what a wonderful man I have been blessed with.

Details of the Day: My style is very clean and simple. I wanted something with special touches (like the picture frames with quotes), but I am also a sucker for clean lines and simple patterns. Navy and green have always been a favorite combination of mine and so it was easy to incorporate beautiful green and white flowers with navy accents. I planned it all with my mom. We didn’t hire a wedding planner and just took our love for simplicity and ran with it!

Most Memorable Moment? I can’t pick just one! Everything from the sweet music I walked down the aisle to (that to this day, Phil and I just can’t listen to without bawling!), to the ambiance created by the venue and Christmas lighting. It truly is a day that I wish I could relive over and over again!

How They Met:
Joey has her MA in Counseling Psychology, and loves NY Times Crossword Puzzles, yoga, hiking, cooking, and meditation. Stephen is the CEO and founder of a 3D software company in Boulder, who loves to study history, to be active, hike with the dogs, and he makes a mean Margarita! Their relationship began when Joey was a hostess at The Kitchen Cafe in Boulder, CO, and Stephen was a regular patron. They slowly got to know each other, and over time (and one marathon conversation), found that they had many shared passions, similar worldviews, and both had the hope to start a family someday. “We share a deep love of our families and friends, and find that spending time with those we love enriches our relationship and gives us lots of support,” says Joey.

Details of the Day (from the Bride):
Food is a major shared passion of Stephen and mine, and we wanted the meal to play a big part of the night. Our caterer was fantastic and incorporated produce from The Farmette, as well as sourced all ingredients locally. Special touches were our Buddhist wedding vows, and the fact that it poured rain from our cocktail hour on into the night! It had been a notoriously dry summer in Colorado, so we like to think that our wedding rain helped out the land! The farmers had tears in their eyes because they were so grateful for the rain. Our guests said that the rain was actually their favorite part- so thank goodness we had rented a tent at the last minute, or else everyone would have been drenched!

Most Memorable Moment (from the Bride):
When I close my eyes and envision my favorite moment, I recall the feelings that I had when my father walked me down the aisle. It was such a pure, emotional moment, and I felt that my mother (who recently passed away)was there too. When I walked down the aisle and saw Stephen’s face smiling at me, I felt full of love and joy, and so happy that we had our closest friends and family there to witness us on that day. It was a profound experience of letting go and feeling so grounded during my transition to becoming a wife!

On the Location:
We chose the Lyons Farmette because we wanted to be outside and enjoy the natural beauty of Colorado, as well as giving our guests a unique experience. We loved the Farmette because of the precious animals, luscious vegetables and colorful flowers. But honestly, what made the location so special was the kindness of Betsy and Mike, who are the owners. Not only did they invite us in their house when we toured, we sat with them as they ate their pancakes and eggs, and then got a tour of their home, which is on the property. They were engaged and loving from the start, and we felt that we had such true supporters in them. They helped us so much, and we will forever be grateful to them!
