Ah, the beauty of a sunset! Those captivating hues that travel a gradient of violet, fuchia, coral, peach, and prettiest pink. As far as warm-weather weddings go, there might not be a happier palette! From dip-dyed gowns, to ombre cakes, and watercolor invites, there are many ways to create a sunset-inspired wedding. The photo by Floret of the farm truck full of dahlias was the original inspiration for this post – and you could create something similar with blooms lined from pink to yellow down the center of a long table, along the aisle, or of course in the bouquets. We’re betting you can’t NOT smile when looking at this palette!

Wedding Color Palette: Hematite

Cool grey tones can make for a surprisingly sophisticated wedding palette. We suggest taking inspiration from nature – in this case, hematite. A steely grey to black mineral composed of iron oxide, hematite crystals can display a beautiful array of silvery grey shades when the light refracts off of them. Choosing a palette of three varied greys for example, can create a natural and elegant look to plan your wedding around. The cool grey tones are also a fantastic neutral to pair with an accent color – we love light blue, deep red, or amber. You might even like to scatter some actual hematite crystals around the base of a silver cake or among your centerpieces – the gemstones are thought to be grounding and to support mental clarity.

As a nature-inspired wedding blog, we couldn’t be more thrilled that Pantone’s color of 2017 is Greenery. Not only is this emblematic color of the natural world soothing to the soul, it signifies growth, balance, rebirth, vitality, and in some countries it is even considered holy. When it comes to weddings there are infinite ways to include more greenery and though it might seem a bold color, it can actually be treated as a neutral. Whether you use it as an underlying neutral in your wedding décor, or prefer to use it as a vibrant accent, it is sure to put a smile on your face.

As I was slicing up a cantaloupe the other day I was inspired yet again by nature’s color palette – such a fresh orange-peach hue, accented perfectly by a spring green rim. Not only is this color a beautiful choice for spring and summer weddings, but you can also incorporate the fruit into your menu with pretty cocktails and treats such as cantaloupe sorbet! It pairs well with blush and gold colors as well as mint , silver, rose gold etc. And though this palette is inspired by cantaloupe, a honeydew or watermelon theme would be just as lovely!

Wedding Color Palette: Aquamarine

This fresh, light blue color works so well for a classically inspired wedding palette. The birthstone for March, Aquamarine was derived from the Latin word aqua (water) and marina (sea). It has been thought to protect sailors and assure a safe voyage, as well as keep one level headed. Because of its watery implications and its beautiful cool translucency, we love this for a watercolor themed wedding. It compliments spring and summer colors (yellow, peach, rose) and is also perfectly captivating on its own. Plus, if you’re interested in the actual stone as a diamond alternative, there are plenty of gorgeous rings out there featuring aquamarine as the main stone – they’re classy, unique, and typically less expensive than a diamond. Win, win.

Wedding Color Palette: Amethyst

One of my favorite semi-precious gemstones of all time is Amethyst – no surprise as it is a violet variety of quartz. It is known as the February birthstone, and also the stone of St. Valentine and faithful love. It can range in tone from translucent, barely-there lavender to deep opaque violet. It has been worn throughout the centuries for protection, to keep one grounded, to keep from overindulging, for mental peace and calm, and to enhance a meditative state among other uses. It is thought by some to enhance creativity and passion. Whichever metaphysical properties pique your interest (or not), there is no denying it’s beauty – especially in geode form. I’ve put together a little inspiration board featuring these soothing hues, and even some creative ways to include the stones in your wedding décor. Enjoy!

Wedding Color Palette: Marsala {Pantone Color of 2015}

There is a color that’s been getting lots of buzz since it was announced recently as Pantone’s color of the year for 2015. I’m talking about Marsala – a beautiful rich red with a hint of rhubarb and ruby in it. At first I wasn’t too excited about this color to be honest, after enjoying Radiant Orchid as the color of 2014. But the more I look at Marsala, the more I like it and see that it can actually be quite an elegant hue. You can incorporate it into your look easily with lipstick, nail polish, or blush. It can be found in the seeds of pomegranates, earthy wine and the fruit of cherries…the bark of redwoods. It makes for a romantic gown or handsome suit, not to mention a stunning winter bouquet. Wedding Color Palette: Ecru

Many brides dream of a white wedding…but for those of us with a more natural, nature-inspired style, white can be a bit too stark and traditional. Ecru, described in the dictionary as a greyish-pale yellow or light greyish-yellowish brown, is often used to describe unbleached fabrics such as silk or linen in their natural state. In fact the French word écru means ‘raw’ or ‘unbleached.’ It’s that gorgeous natural ivory-cream color of antique lace, muslin, and sometimes butter. We love ecru for natural weddings, whether it be in the unbleached freshwater pearls you wear, or an “ivory” gown that doesn’t glare in a too-white way. Ecru, since it is such a soothing neutral can also be paired with so many colors. We love it with gold, blush, mint, lilac, or coral. Here is a collection of pretty ecru things to inspire you.

Wedding Color Palette: Sapphire

It’s September! That lovely time of year when the days (or at least the nights) begin to cool off, yet the crickets still keep up their summer chorus into the evening hours. It’s also when we Virgo’s get to celebrate our birthdays! Sapphire is the September birthstone and makes for a gorgeous wedding palette. Though known for its deep blue hue, this gemstone actually can come in a whole range of colors, from light or dark pink, to green, yellow or even orange and red. These great alternatives to diamonds can also be colorless, but for the purpose of this inspiration board I’ve concentrated on blue. You can keep your wedding palette more natural by adding neutral (not neon) shades of blue, and adding natural color whenever possible – for example adding naturally blue viburnum berries to your bouquet instead of flowers that are artificially dyed blue.
