Jessie and Charlie, and their charismatic dog, had their engagement session with Joie du Jour Photography in Boise Idaho this past fall. I love these relaxed, candid shots, the golden light, rustic field, and blue-grey river stones, not to mention Jessie’s awesome dress and boots! They will be married this July in Coure d’Alene, Idaho. Read below to find out how these two journalists met, and to learn about their proposals. That’s right, there were two!
Before the Ring:
We’re both journalists, Charlie’s a photographer and I am a writer. We met on an assignment at an elementary school about four years ago. He was 15 minutes early, and I was 15 minutes late, forever establishing our future relationship roles (he being the punctual one who likes to wake up with the sunrise, and me, not so much). Before we got started on the assignment, we were invited into the lunchroom to eat with the kids. As I, still blurry-eyed, surveyed the food on my cafeteria tray, I felt someone’s gaze. I looked up and there was Charlie, staring. He leaned in close and said: “Hey, are you going to eat your roll?” We didn’t start dating until about a year and half later, after I convinced Charlie to break his rule about not dating people he worked with professionally. We were happy to find that we actually work pretty well together.
There were two. Charlie first asked me to marry him last August when he was offered a job in another state. I thought he was mostly terrified I wouldn’t be willing to move with him. But in fact, Charlie had bought the ring a while ago and was a nervous wreck (so nervous, that when he first asked me to marry him, he forgot the ring). I told him that of course I would marry him, but neither of us was really sure if we were actually engaged given the impromptu proposal. Charlie cleared things up about a month and a half later, proposing during a beautiful sunset at a lake near our home in Boise.
