Woodland Wedding at Honey Run {Kelly Doran Photography}

If it weren’t for the Star Wars Holiday Special, Emily and Adam may never have happened. It was the first of many B movies they would watch together and laugh over as they began to fall in love. They said their vows in an enchanting forest near the Inn at Honey Run, a boutique country inn at the heart of Ohio Amish Country. Emily looked like a woodland princess in her Justin Alexander gown and mossy crown, and the bouquets, lush with ferns and thistle were just right for this fairytale-like celebration. From the Bride…

Before the Ring:
Who knew the Star Wars Holiday Special would EVER be good for something? It just so happens that we are that something.

It all started one night in June of 2010 just before summer break. We had first met at our campus ministry, Reach out on Campus, in the fall and had become pretty good friends by then. Adam made the valid comment that the Star Wars Holiday Special was the worst movie of all time. Ever the devil’s advocate, I bet him that I could find a worse one (I had not seen it at the time). He agreed and said that if I found one, we would watch it together when school started back up. Well… I don’t know if you have seen this movie but it is terrible. This realization spurred me on to find that one horrible movie that would top it; it had to be out there! Needless to say, my summer was filled with more cheesy class B movies than I could count and I became intimately acquainted with Mystery Science Theater 3000. After many long hours of searching, I finally found one that might work. Actually, I found a few, but I had to pick one that was laughable enough to have something to talk about. Puma Man did the trick. Admittedly, I don’t think its worse, but it sure is funny! Once we had watched it together, Adam made sure that we had another terrible movie picked out for next time and our tradition of class B movie dates had begun.

Of course, it would take a lot more than that to get us dating. We happened to be in the same class together that quarter (which may or may not have been a coincidence) and it was taught by none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi! Just kidding… but seriously, there is an uncanny resemblance. Anyway, we sometimes liked to skip it together and we would sit outside and talk instead. Over the course of the quarter we started talking more and more and watching more horrible movies. We watched a tornado together under the Baker parking garage, plotted to take over the world with lava monsters, and wrestled over a week-old piece of pizza which ended in a lava lamp falling on my head. Yet despite all of this, he still didn’t know if I liked him or not so he didn’t ask me out.

My friend Madi and her scary movies on Halloween was eventually what sealed the deal. After the festivities on Court Street, Madi and I invited Adam to come watch scary movies with us. I hate scary movies. 2 minutes in to the exorcism of Emily Rose and I was already screaming. Luckily, that sort of thing works when there is a cute guy around to put his arm around you! He kept it there the whole night and by the 4th movie, which was Muppet Treasure Island, we had fallen asleep in each other’s arms. It’s safe to say we’ve been inseparable ever since!

The Proposal:
One and a half years later, Adam took me to all those places where we had shared special memories, including the place on the grass where we used to skip class and my old dorm where we watched the scary movies, and he asked me to be his wife. That was one of the happiest moments of my life! Our life together so far has been filled with adventures and we have loved every minute. We can’t wait to find out what our next one will be! But one thing is for sure: having been brought together by God and Star Wars, our union is a force to be reckoned with!
