Terace and Philip had their spring wedding at one of the most beautiful places in Newport, Rhode Island – the Castle Hill Inn. It was the perfect setting for their nautical theme which was detailed with weather-worn beach lanterns, seashells, green orchids and white peony buds, and fresh seafood. I absolutely love their romantic photo session at the light house! Terace’s blush colored cape (my favorite detail!) was custom made for the wedding and added a timeless elegance to her look. Read on to find out how they met and how he proposed.
Before the Ring:
Philip and I met through mutual friends who live in Edgewood, RI and he was dating someone at the time. We saw each other at a local restaurant months later and, as Philip would tell it, he fell in love with me right then & there. Having taken a few years sabbatical from my photography business, I had begun to bartend at a local Asian bistro. Philip visited during every shift I worked and we became friends. I really wasn’t sure, until Master’s weekend of 2011, I knew then I was falling in love, at 45 I was finally going to take down my guard and give this man my heart. This was my first marriage and Philip’s second. He soon after asked me if I wanted to go away for a few days. We chose Elbow Beach, Bermuda on June 1st. I thought for sure we were going to get married there so I bought a pretty yellow dress and was over the moon excited for our Saturday night dinner. We went to a French restaurant & he asked me…with no ring? Yes, not very well thought through but I believed the sentiment was there. We went the following day to shop for a ring only to learn Bermuda’s stores are closed on Sunday. Dually noted!!
My uncle is a jewelry model maker and Philip solicited his talents to make my rings. We had gone to dinner at Al Forno’s in Providence, again I thought for sure he was going to propose, that my champagne or desert would certainly come with a ring inside. He waited until we got home and he got down on his knee and told me what I’ve done for him and how much he loves me and asked if I would be his wife.
Details of the Day:
Castle Hill is a place I have been going since I was 5 or 6 years old. It is one of the most beautiful places I know of and could not have been more excited to know we were going to be the first to celebrate under their new Sperry tent. Our theme was nautical since we both love the water and I wanted all to be local. I used Riversedge Florist in Pawtuxet village where we live, I had one of their vendors make the nautical gift bags filled with all things made in Rhode Island as the theme. Everyone loved them!
I had a beautiful blush colored cape made by Vivian of Vivian’s Tailor Shop in North Smithfield, since it was April & New England I wasn’t sure what the weather was going to be….I had seen an Alexander McQueen cape in one of my magazines and when I enquired as to its price ($17,000) that was not going to happen so I decided to have one made. As it turned out we had temperatures between 72-75 blue skies and a remarkably beautiful spring day we were blessed with, but the winds off the ocean made my cape a wonderful accessory! We had two live bands. The first was Yvonne Monnett Trio they performed while guests arrived, the ceremony & cocktail hour. Then we had Travis Colby & guests perform for the reception and that was fantastic!! (Two members are from Room Full of Blues). We also took dance lessons and danced to Nat King Cole’s “Love.”
