Wye Island Wildflower Wedding by Kirsten Marie Photography

Fresh, colorful wildflowers, a romantic lace gown, and two people in love make for a wedding with timeless beauty. Burlap, white linens, and wildflowers were Gillian’s inspiration and her vision came together gorgeously. The floral arrangements have an organic and whimsical quality. I love the flower-filled mason jars that hang from the walls of the outdoor reception area and all of Gillian’s sweet DIY details such as the rustic wedding ceremony arch draped with burlap and more wildflowers, and strawberry rhubarb favors.

Read below for their proposal story, and more details.

Engagement Story:

Gillian and Matt originally met online after she had just moved to the DC area from Texas and he had just taken his first job after veterinary school. They had been dating about a year when she thought it would be romantic to take a trip out to the beach to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean. Gillian and Matt planned a trip out to Dewey beach on fourth of July weekend two years ago. In preparation, she made scones and coffee for thyeir morning adventure. They packed up the car and headed out at 4am for an early morning picnic. As the sun was rising, Matt got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. “I fought back the tears and mustered up a grunt of a yes, followed by a long, officially yours forever kiss. It was such a romantic engagement. We will both cherish that moment forever,” Gillian says.

Most Memorable Wedding Moment: (From Gillian)

Your wedding goes by in a blur so it’s really hard to pin-point my most memorable moment. Because my wedding was DIY, I tend to remember all the lessons learned before the memories. But, one of the most memorable moments for Matt and I was when my father gave his long winded, very funny speech.
